So, something I have a problem with is doing neutral makeup. The colors always look so plain and boring in the palette and even more boring when it goes on my face! When people come to me at MAC looking for neutral colors to wear to work, I basically always convince them to spice it up and break away from the neutrals! But then I come across beautiful makeup looks that are entirely neutral. Like this one in particular, is so strikingly beautiful yet all neutral! It bothered me that neutrals could yield such a pretty look, and I took it as a challenge. While I’m not ready to go head over heels for neutrals and purchase a Naked palette, I went ahead and got the Bare Minerals READY 4.0 palette in COLOR the truth, for my look. The yellowy-white, taupe, and cool brown shades were a frosty finish, while the darkest glittery brown was matte. I even topped it off with a neutral grey liner, trying one of Laura Mercier’s for the first time – in Stormy Grey.
Another problem I realized I have (do you have it to?) is I never seem to be able to use entirely one palette when doing eye makeup. So, I challenged myself to use only this palette of boring, yet high quality shadows. I almost made it, too, but then broke down and popped some of Makeup Forever’s Neon Pink 75 shadow just to liven up the look a bit. Yes, the shadow is insanely bright, but that’s why I love bright matte shadows – use just a touch of it and it’s a very wearable look. Much rather use a touch of something rather than have to pack product on to build it up.
Overall, I was happy with the look. I coupled it with a soft pink blush and nude lip color. A very different look for me, but I got lots of compliments on it Saturday night. Yay for spicing things up. What do you think? How do you feel about neutrals? Do you have any palettes that you can use for an entire makeup look? I’ve included some detail shots, with the products I used below. I’m trying to incorporate more pictures of makeup on me, on this blog – so please bear with me while I experiment and try to figure out how to take good shots. It’s hard!
