So this is my third installment of this series of makeup looks to pair with red lips. If you want a dramatic eye to wear with a red lip, this is it!
In case you missed look 1 with a simple winged liner, you can click here. Look 2 translated the red hue from the lips onto the eyes and cheeks here. For the final look, I’m showing how to make a smokey eye that isn’t too heavy for the red lip, that is still sparkly and festive.
Items needed:
1) Essence matte lip cream in silky red $2.99
2) An array of your favorite bronze/coppery/brown shades. I used Maybelline color tattoo in Bad to the Bronze $8, MAC shadows in honeylust, mulch & sketch $15, and NYC Aqua lux glitter liner in nude
For this look, I started out with another long-wearing matte red, this time a brand from the drugstore – Essence. This is a liquid lipstick – it applies like a gloss but is opaque like a lipstick. It will transfer onto your cup or straw, but I find it won’t spread or feather on its own. The color is a bright red that leans on the orange side.
For the eyes, I wanted a dramatic look, that wasn’t too harsh. So I went with a brown smokey eye that incorporated bronze, copper and glitter. Note – do not do a black smokey eye with red lips! You will end up looking like a clown! I did go quite deep using Sketch in the outer v, as well as smudged underneath my eye. But the metallic tones of Honey Lust on the lid and Mulch in the crease kept it from getting too heavy. I then applied some of the Nude glitter liner with a fluffy brush to brighten the lid. Underneath it all was Bad to the Bronze applied all over my lid. Liner and mascara on top and bottom, and the eyes were done.
I wanted my skin to be super even as a backdrop to such a dramatic eye and lip. So I took care to really work the concealer to brighten under my eyes. Since the lips were slightly orangey and the eyes bronze, I went with a bronzer coral shade on my cheeks. A soft dusting of Milani’s (yikes I can’t remember the name) blush. Since
On the rest of my face, I used:
Face- MAC prolongwear foundation NC37, Covergirl+Olay concealer in Light/Medium, MAC Taupe blush to lightly contour
Eyes- Maybelline master drama liner in black, Smashbox lash primer, Benefit they’re real mascara
What do you think of today’s look? Let me know if you end up giving it a try, or any of the looks from this series. Which one was your favorite?
